The New England Patriots (2-1) were heavy favorites over the lowly Raiders last Sunday. Many thought that if Tom Brady and the Patriot offense were going to get in rhythm that this was the week. It didn’t happen. The Patriots offence sputtered out of the gate. Tom Brady struggled to move the ball down field all afternoon completing 24 of 37 for 234 yards and only 1 touchdown. Despite the lethargic effort the Patriots managed to pull off the win thanks to Wilfork Island. If the Patriots want a victory on Monday night they’ll have to find a way to keep Tom Brady on his feet.
The Kansas City Chiefs (1-2) are coming off a solid performance against the Miami Dolphins. Alex Smith completed 19 of 25 passes for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns. If the Chiefs want a win on Monday night against the Patriots, Alex Smith will have to keep finding the end-zone

Team Breakdown
Patriots: Tom Brady continues to struggle with throwing the ball downfield. It’s becoming clear that the offensive-line issues are serious. The loss of longtime offensive-line coach Dante Scarnecchia to retirement before the season has caused a loss of identity. The offensive-lines failure isn’t the fault of any single player. No one along the line has played well. The group isn’t working together well as a unit. Each member of the line has been out of position and lost in one-on-one battles regularly. The Patriots lack of cohesion on the offensive-line has permeated the entire offense. Tom Brady has had no time to find anyone downfield through the first three weeks. Julian Edelman had been the most reliant receiver on the field for the Patriots with twice as many receptions (22) as the next person on the team (Gronkowski has 11). The Patriots are in dire need of any receiver (I’m looking at you Danny Amendola) besides Edelman to emerge. If the Patriots are going to overcome their offensive struggles the offensive-line will need to transform.
Chiefs: Knile Davis rushed for 132 yards and a score on 32 carries. Andy Reid’s offense relies heavily on a balanced ground attack. Davis received the most rushing touches while Joe McKnight had 2 receiving touchdowns. It was an all around balanced performance by a Chiefs offense in need of a boost. Thus far, the Chiefs’ passing game has been mediocre. Alex Smith will be a field general come Sunday and needs to manage an error free game. If the Chiefs have a solid running attack on Sunday than the opportunity for Alex Smith to play-action the New England secondary to death will be there.
Free Pick
The Chiefs defensive front anchored by Justin Houston, Dontari Poe, and Tamba Hali has 6.5 sacks on the year. A date with the New England Patriots could double those numbers. Despite the Chief’s defensive struggles this group of pass-rushers should get to Tom Brady on Sunday early and often. If the Patriots are going to win they’ll have to find a way to stop this group. The Patriots need to find a solution to their pass protection problem. They’ll find it this week with a steady dose of short screens and the no-huddle offense. On the other side of the ball, the Patriots’ defense has been solid and will shutdown the Kansas City run game. If the Patriots can find a way to block for Brady and limit the Chiefs run game then expect a Patriots victory by the slimmest of margins.
Patriots 27, Chiefs 24
