On paper, the Washington Nationals have one of the most talented rosters in baseball, but the team seems to underachieve every year. Despite their lack of playoff success, the team is still capable of winning the World Series because they have one of the best pitching rotations as well as one of the best hitters in Bryce Harper.
The problem the Nationals have had in recent years is their inconsistent hitting, which has cost them opportunities in the post season. During the offseason, the Nationals didn’t make any major additions to the team because management feels they have all the pieces they need to make a long post season run. However, they might add a player or two once the season starts if the team continues to struggle hitting the ball.
The expectations are high this year with the Nationals being very competitive over the past 5 seasons, but failing to advance past the NLDS in any of the 3 years they made the postseason in that span.
Will the Nats be back in the post season this year and will they finally get over the hump? All odds I’ve used below are from BetOnline.ag, our top rated site for betting on baseball.
Odds To Win The NL East
- Atlanta Braves +2000
- Miami Marlins +1600
- New York Mets +170
- Philadelphia Phillies +3300
- Washington Nationals -150
The Nationals are the overwhelming favorites to win the NL East, but they will face some tough competition from the New York Mets, and the Miami Marlins, who will surprise a few people this year.
Odds To Win NL Pennant
- San Francisco Giants +700
- Atlanta Braves +5000
- Chicago Cubs +185
- New York Mets +750
- Colorado Rockies +2500
- Los Angeles Dodgers +375
- Miami Marlins +3600
- Washington Nationals +500
The Nationals have the third best odds of winning the National League Pennant, but they will likely have a difficult time defeating the Cubs or Dodgers if they meet in the playoffs because both teams are better-rounded than the Nationals. However, if Bryce Harper returns to his MVP form and gets help from his teammates, they will be tough to defeat.
Odds To Win The World Series
- Boston Red Sox +550
- Chicago Cubs +475
- Cleveland Indians +700
- Los Angeles Dodgers +700
- Washington Nationals +1000
- San Francisco Giants +1200
- Houston Astros +1200
- New York Mets +1200
There are four teams with better odds of winning the World Series, but as long as the Nationals pitching staff stays healthy, they will be a difficult team to face in the playoffs.
