The Haskell Stakes is the biggest race that comes to Monmouth Park Racetrack in New Jersey each year. There is a nice $1,000,000 purse and the Grade 1 race is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series that rewards the winner with a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic this November.
This years race features three high quality horses in Mindframe (9/5), Fierceness (5/2), and Belmont Stakes winner, Dornoch (5/2). Mindframe finished second to Dornoch in the Belmont Stakes, and has won his two other career races. Fierceness won the Florida Derby in March and was one of the favorites leading into the Kentucky Derby, but had a poor showing and has not raced since.

My Pick
I like Fierceness to win this race at odds of 5/2. As mentioned earlier, he was one of the favorites to win the Kentucky Derby, but had a poor showing finishing in 15th. He has not raced since the Derby, and I expect him to be back at his best for this race. Fierceness won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last November and the Florida Derby in March, so he has a history of winning significant races, and he’s proven to be a very fast horse when on his A-game.
