The biggest cycling race of the year gets underway this Saturday in Utrecht, Netherlands. From there it looks like there’s another few days between Holland and Belgium before the riders make their way into the North of France at Cambria on Wednesday. From there on the race makes its way the entire way around France until things finish up on July 25th.
The Tour de France is the biggest cycling race in the world. It gets by far the most publicity and fanfare, and of course it has the most bets placed on it of all the main Tours.
Online sportsbook Bovada.lv is the best place for Americans to bet on the 2015 Tour de France.
The have a variety of bets that you can make on the Tour, including the overall winner, points classification winner, king of the mountains winner and young rider classification winner.
Here are some of the favourites for the different bets. The odds are from Bovada.lv:
Overall Winner (General Classification)
- Chris Froome 7/4
- Nairo Quintana 9/4
- Alberto Contador 3/1
- Vincenzo Nibali 9/2
- Thibaut Pinot 25/1
- Tejay Van Garderen 25/1
- Joaquim Rodriquez 33/1
- Romain Bardet 33/1
There are the top 8 riders who are expected to be in the running for a Tour de France win. I think you should probably stick with one of the top 4 riders because there are usually not many huge surprises in cycling. This is because each team has a rider who they will be trying to get to the finish line the fastest, so although there are many riders in the race, only a few will actually be trying to win.
Points Classification Winner
- Peter Sagan 8/11
- Alexander Kristoff 3/1
- Mark Cavendish 6/1
- John Degenkolb 10/1
- Nacer Bouhanni 12/1
King of the Mountains Winner
- Nairo Quintana 9/2
- Pierre Rolland 8/1
- Chris Froome 9/1
- Alberto Contador 10/1
- Joaquim Rodriquez 10/1
As you can see, the majority of favourites for King of the Mountains are also favourites to win the entire race. This shows just how much the mountains will play into the overall times of the riders.
Young Riders Classification
- Nairo Quintana 4/9
- Thibaut Pinot 4/1
- Romain Bardet 9/1
- Wilco Kelderman 14/1
Quintana is a massive favourite here. At 25 years old he’s coming into his own and he’s showing that he can be a huge threat in every race. I expect Quintana to get the win among the young riders.
It’s definitely going to be an exciting race from start to finish. You will be able to wager on all of these different classifications throughout the race. The odds will just change depending how each rider is faring.
