It’s been a fun year for tennis with both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal having resurgent years in their careers, with Federer winning 2 of the first 3 Grand Slams, while Nadal took home the French Open. These two will be the favourites heading into the last major of the year with the top players in tennis heading to Flushing Meadows for the US Open in the coming weeks. Novak Djokovic is sidelined for the remainder of the year and Andy Murray has had a year to forget so he will be coming to the US Open out of form, but young guns like Alexander Zverev, Nick Kyrgios and Dominic Thiem will all be looking to take the next steps in their careers and battle the legends for this coveted title.
On this page I will be breaking down the winner odds for the Men’s US Open tournament, while also providing you with my favourite play from those odds and finishing up with a quick 3 step guide to placing your US Open wager for those of you who are new to betting online.
2017 US Open Odds
Here are the odds from Bovada.lv, our top rated sportsbook for Americans interested in betting online.
- Roger Federer +125
- Rafael Nadal +260
- Andy Murray +700
- Alexander Zverev +700
- Nick Kyrgios +1400
- Marin Cilic +1800
- Milos Raonic +2000
- Grigor Dimitrov +2200
- Dominic Thiem +2500
- Juan Martin Del Potro +3300
These are the ten men who are being given a legitimate chance at winning the tournament. After Del Potro the odds jump all the way up to 80/1 and I would advise against taking anyone outside of this list.
My Pick
Federer definitely deserves to be the favorite in this tournament and I would agree that he is the most likely to win the tournament for his third Grand Slam this year. That said, at +125 odds I do not think he is the best value on the board, but I can’t argue with the play.
As for Nadal and Murray, I really do not think either one of these players will win the tournament, so I advise against playing them at their prices.
Looking down the board I do like Zverev at +700. He just beat Federer in the finals of the Rogers Cup and although he lost his first match in Cincinnati I think that was best for him to be prepared for the US Open anyways.
The other players who catch my eye on this board are Marin Cilic at 18/1 and Grigor Dimitrov at 22/1. Cilic won the US Open in 2014, so it shows he has the game to win at Flushing Meadows, and he made the finals at Wimbledon, which shows his game is in form. The question mark with him is that he suffered a slight injury in the Wimbledon finals and has not played in a hard court tournament yet this year, so his form heading into the tournament has to be in question. That said, I still think he’s a decent play at those odds.
Dimitrov is coming off a big win in Cincinnati where he cruised through the tournament with wins over Del Potro, Isner and Kyrgios without dropping a set. He has always had trouble with the games elite though (0-7 vs Federer, 1-8 vs Nadal, 3-8 vs Murray), which is cause for concern, but depending on the draw he could be in play if his road to the finals opens up.
Top Play: Zverev +700
Zverev is on the cusp of being the next top dog in men’s tennis. He’s only 20 years old and has a great team around him. I would not be surprised if he takes the jump towards “the guy” with a US Open win en route to the #1 ranking at this time next year.
