My Pick
At 4-1, the Falcons are one of the biggest surprises in the NFL so far, considering they weren’t expected to finish better than 2nd place in the division. After a disappointing loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on opening day, they have pulled off four consecutive victories, including a very impressive win over the Denver Broncos on the road.
Despite the win against Denver, the Falcons still have a few doubters due to their mid-season collapse last year. They will be looking to put all the doubts to rest this weekend with a big win over the Seahawks.
After a slow start the season Wilson and the Seahawks offense seems to be clicking.
The Seahawks are on top of the NFC West once again, and are looking to put some distance between themselves and the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams, who are also within reach of the division title.
After scoring only 13 points in their first two games, the Seahawks offense has exploded for 64 points in their last two outings. The team will be trying to continue the trend against a Falcons defense that has given up a lot of yards this season.
Unlike the Falcons, who have defeated a couple of solid teams in Oakland, and Denver, the Seahawks haven’t really been tested so far, and their opponents have a combined record of 6-14. This will be Seattle’s first real test of the season, so it will be interesting to find out if they are real contenders or just pretenders to the throne.
The Seahawks have one of the best defenses in the NFL, but they will be tested against the Falcons, with Julio Jones in the middle of another great season. Jones, who has had some success against the Seattle defensive backs, has been dealing with some nagging injuries this season, but he was still able to gain 300 receiving yards a couple of weeks ago, which means the Seahawks can’t afford to leave him in single coverage if they don’t want to get burned.
The Falcons on the other hand have to be ready for Russell Wilson and his improvisational skills. Wilson has been dealing with a knee and ankle injury that have limited his mobility, but he has still been able to put up big numbers and lead his team to victory.
Wilson should be able to shred the Falcons defense, which is allowing opponents to score 28 points per game, as long as his offensive line can keep him healthy.
Final word…
The Falcons have looked great, especially against the Broncos last week, however, Seattle is a tough place for a visiting team, so I’m picking the Seahawks to cover the spread and win the game.
