Bet On Chicago Bears Vs San Francisco 49ers Week 2

The Chicago Bears look to rebound after a surprise week one loss against the Buffalo Bills. Chicago played a tight game at home before losing in over-time. It’s not the kind of performance the Bears were hoping for from second year head coach Marc Trestman. The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a dominant performance against a Dallas Cowboys squad that looked absolutely abysmal. The 49ers were already up 21-3 in the first quarter with the offense seeing only limited action. The 49ers won’t face a cup-cake-defense like the Cowboys this week as the 0-1 Bears look to avoid a compromising 0-2 start.

Team Breakdowns

Chicago: The Bears’ offense is bound to get rolling at some point this season, but week 2 will be a difficult match-up. Jay Cutler’s two biggest targets Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jefferys exited Sunday’s loss to the Bills with leg and ankle injuries. While Jefferys may sit, Brandon Marshall has declared that he’ll test out his injured ankle. Marshall’s injury makes him questionable at best. Also injured are center Roberto Garza and left-guard Matt Slauson. Jay Cutler has received his share of criticism for his performance last Sunday. He threw two crucial interceptions in the game to go along with two touchdowns. Jay Cutler will have to shake his gunslinger persona and protect the football. One way the Bears will ease some of Cutler’s pressure is running-back Matt Forte. If he can have a big game against the 49ers defensive-front-seven and get to that second level, the Bears could run to victory.

San Francisco: The 49ers controlled the game against the Cowboys from start to finish. It was an impressive showing for a 49er’s team looking to make a statement. Colin Kaepernick didn’t put up sensational numbers but he was a constant and steady presence in the pocket. Against a Bears weak rushing defense look for Kaepernick to run a few option-plays early on to keep the Bears’ defense honest. Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde are complementary backs that love to run it right at the heart of the defensive-line. The one-two-punch is just another dimension of a 49ers offensive attack that’s becoming more dynamic. The 49er’s defense, however, are not immune to the injury-bug. The 49er’s secondary will be without key defensive-backs Chris Culliver and Tramain Brock. This is a bit of a blow for a 49er’s defense that forced three turnovers against the Cowboys in the first quarter last Sunday.

Free Pick

The Bears need this game badly. They don’t want to start the season 0-2. They’re a better team than 0-2 and are certainly a threat in the NFC North, however, the NFC West is a completely different beast this season. The 49er’s have the better defense and a more balanced offensive attack than the Bears. If the 49er’s can protect Colin Kaepernick and keep him in the pocket, he’ll continue to throw for a high completion percentage. This game will come down to a battle of quarterbacks and my money is always on the better quarterback. In this case, that’s Kaepernick.

San Francisco 27 Chicago 17
