It’s Bowl Game season in college football, with only the cream of the crop remaining to play in a game, and it generally being the biggest one of their season. Almost every team with an above .500 record this year has been invited to participate in a Bowl Game and every weekend from now until the BCS Championship game on Monday, January 7th will have some very exciting matchups.
Online sportsbook Bovada.lv has some interesting prop bets available with regards to the entire College Bowl Game schedule. I’ll list them out here and give my quick thoughts on each prop:
NCAA Bowl Game Props
Total Bowl Wins By Conference
ACC Over 2 Wins (-110)
ACC Under 2 Wins (-130)
The ACC had North Carolina and Miami (FL) both ineligible to play in a bowl game this year and because both teams did finish with above .500 records it really hurt the ACC’s chances to be a big Conference in terms of winning Bowls. Florida State goes into the Orange Bowl as big 12.5 point favorites over Northern Illinois, but after that it gets dicey. Virginia Tech is a small 2.5 point favorite over Rutgers, but after that every ACC team is a dog. Clemson is a 4 point dog against LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, NC State are 7 point dogs against Vanderbilt in the Music City Bowl, Georgia Tech is a 10 point dogs against USC and Duke is a 7.5 point dog against Cincinnati. That’s still 7 ACC teams with a chance to win Bowls though and 2 as favorites. I really like the Over at -110 here for the ACC teams.
Big 12 Over 4.5 Wins (-140)
Big 12 Under 4.5 Wins (+100)
In the Big 12 every single team except Kansas will be participating in a Bowl Game. So that is 9 teams total that can win games. Here are the teams and their odds.:
Oklahoma State -16.5 vs Purdue
Texas Tech -12.5 vs Minnesota U
West Virginia -4 vs Syracuse
TCU -2.5 vs Michigan State
Iowa State -1 vs Tulsa
Baylor pk vs UCLA
Texas +2 vs Oregon State
Oklahoma +4.5 vs Texas A&M
Kansas State +9.5 vs Oregon
So there are 5 favorites, 3 underdogs and one pick’em game. You have to like the over after seeing those spreads.
Big Ten Over 2 Wins (-105)
Big Ten Under 2 Wins (-135)
The Big Ten had Ohio State and Penn State both ineligible for Bowl Games this season. That said there are still 7 Big Ten teams playing in Bowls, and only 2 need to win for a push.
Michigan State +2.5 vs TSU
Northwestern +2.5 vs Mississippi State
Michigan +5.5 vs South Carolina
Wisconsin +7 vs Stanford
Nebraska +10 vs Georgia
Minnesota +12.5 vs Texas Tech
Purdue +16.5 vs Oklahoma State
As you can see The Big Ten isn’t getting any respect by the oddsmakers. If the favorites won each of these games The Big Ten would have 0 wins. I think the under provides some pretty good value here. The Big Ten will be lucky to win 2.
SEC Over 6 Wins (-130)
SEC Under 6 Wins (-110)
The SEC has 8 teams playing in Bowl Games, with most as the favorites:
Ole Miss -3.5 vs Pittsburgh
LSU -4 vs Clemson
Texas A&M -4.5 vs Oklahoma
South Carolina -5.5 vs Michigan
Vanderbilt -7 vs NC State
Georgia -10 vs Nebraska
Alabama -10.5 vs Notre Dame
Florida -13.5 vs Louisville
Eight teams, eight favorites. Six is a pretty good over/under in this one and it basically comes down to how good do you think the SEC really is this year.
