Atlanta Falcons Analysis…
The Falcons started the season with an unimpressive win over the Chicago Bears, which led some to wonder if the Falcons have what it takes to make it back to the Super Bowl this season.
The Falcons silenced their critics on Sunday by dismantling the Green Bay Packers 34-23, in a game that was not as close as the final score suggests.
Now that they have defeated the defending NFC North champions, they turn their sights on the team that finished second in the division last season.
Just like they did last season, Matt Ryan and Julio Jones continue to put up big numbers, and running back Devonta Freeman bounced back from a poor outing against Chicago with 84 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on Sunday.
The Falcons offense, which is averaging 28 points per game has rightfully been getting all the attention, but their defense has been very solid as well, holding opponents to an average of 20 points per game, which is good for 15th in the league so far.
If their defense plays as well as they did against the Packers, expect the Falcons to win an easy one against the Lions.
Detroit Lions Analysis….
The Lions have played very well in their first two games and look like they will legitimately contend with the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North this season.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford has been brilliant directing the offense, which has more balance this year than it did last season.
After being shut down by the Arizona Cardinals in their first game, Ameer Abdullah rushed for 86 yards on 17 carries against the New York Giants.
Golden Tate continues to prove he is capable of being the top receiver on the team, and leads the team with 132 yards and is on pace for another 1,000 yard season.
Defensively, the Lions looked much better against the Giants than they did against the Cardinals, but they will need to be even better against the high-flying Falcons offense. If they can make life difficult for Matt Ryan, they will be able to get the win.
Last word…
The Falcons looked very good against the Packers on Sunday, but they are still a very shaky road team so I’m going with the Lions to cover in this one. Take Detroit +3, and the over on the total points.
