Atlanta Falcons Analysis…
The Falcons avoided getting swept by the AFC East with a comeback victory against the New York Jets on Sunday. With the AFC part of their schedule over, the Falcons can now turn their focus to the NFC, especially their division, where they have more competition than they expected at the start of the season.
One thing that’s been made clear by their recent play, is the fact that the Falcons aren’t the same team that made it to the Super Bowl last season.
Their offense, which was one of the best in the NFC last season, hasn’t been as good this season, and the Falcons have scored 17 points or less in three of their last four games. The team finally broke out of their offensive funk with a 25 point game against the Jets on Sunday.
With the Carolina defense feasting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, the Falcon s will need to be very sharp offensively if they want to leave North Carolina with a victory on Sunday.
Carolina Panthers Analysis…
Like the Falcons, the Panthers have dealt with consistency issues this season. The Panthers have big wins against the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and Detroit Lions, and also have head scratching losses against the Chicago Bears.
When their offense is clicking, the Panthers have shown they are capable of beating anybody. However, when their offense is struggling, which has happened too often this season, their defense is forced to pick up the slack, which has worn them out in a few games.
Cam Newton has been able to move the ball with ease for most of the season, but he hasn’t done a good job taking care of the ball, and his turnovers have hurt the team in a few games this year, costing them chances to win a couple of games.
Their running game also hasn’t been very good, despite the addition of college star Christian McCaffrey, whom they took in the last draft. If Carolina can get the run game going against the Falcons, they should be able to control the clock and give their defense time to rest, which will help them get the win.
Final word…
After watching them against the Jets, the Falcons haven’t looked impressive, especially on the road. The Panthers are coming off an impressive road win against the Bucs, so I’m giving them the edge here. Take Carolina -1.5.
