It’s Thanksgiving Day this Thursday and to NFL fans that simply means there are 3 big games on tap and they get two full days of football this week instead of just one. The first game on the docket is the Houston Texans playing the Lions in Detroit. The Texans are coming off a surprisingly difficult win at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars in overtime (2 TD’s in last 5 minutes and one in overtime for the win), while the Lions had a heartbreaking loss to the Packers in a tight game that could define their playoff chances (up by 6 with 2 minutes to go).
Texans vs Lions Odds
Online sportsbook Bovada.lv, which is our top rated online bookie for Americans has the following odds this early in the week:
Houston Texans -3.5 (+100)
Detroit Lions +3.5 (-120)
Thoughts
The Texans are now 9-1 and are have basically locked down the AFC South. They showed a lot of heart and ability in coming from behind to beat the Jaguars on Sunday, but that said it was the Jags who are now 1-9, the mirror image of the Texans. Divisional games like that are often hard to call though, so we can’t look too far into the Texans tough game against Jacksonville.
Detroit on the other hand now sits at 4-6 and with that tough loss really put themselves against the wall for the playoffs this year. They are only -10 for the season in a tough division, but they basically will need to win out to have a shot at the postseason.
I’m not buying the line here. Houston is 4-0 on the road this season and they may have been looking past Jacksonville with the short week building up to the Lions game this week. I expect them to be ready and to show that a tough battle with a weak team was just an off week (in which they still managed to win).
I really like the Texans -3.5 here for even money. Houston has won a lot of games this year and they have won every one of them by more than 4 points.
