The Formula One season has been one big silver blur so far, with the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg utterly dominating from the front of the pack, in a manner that has left a lot of fans disillusioned about the changes that have been brought in this season. This weekend sees the most prestigious race of the season take place, in the Principality of Monaco, and judging by the way qualifying went, with the Mercedes locking out the front row of the grid once again, it looks like their dominance might well stretch further into the season.
Monaco Grand Prix Odds
Driver | Race Win | Podium Finish |
Nico Rosberg | 8/11 | 2/9 |
Lewis Hamilton | 6/5 | 1/5 |
Daniel Ricciardo | 14/1 | 1/2 |
Sebastian Vettel | 25/1 | 5/4 |
Fernando Alonso | 40/1 | 2/1 |
Kimi Raikkonen | 100/1 | 12/1 |
Jean-Eric Vergne | 250/1 | 50/1 |
Kevin Magnussen | 300/1 | 25/1 |
Qualifying at Monaco is the most important of the season, as the make shift race track prepared on the streets of Monaco are notoriously difficult to overtake on. Locking out the front row of the rid was therefore crucial for any potential contenders for the race, and barring any accidents or reliability issues, it is difficult to see a victory coming to any other place but the Mercedes paddock on Sunday afternoon.
Championship leaders Lewis Hamilton will start the race from second place on the grid on Sunday, as Nico Rosberg just did enough to secure pole position in qualifying on Saturday afternoon. The two Red Bulls of Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel will start the race from the second row, followed by the two Ferraris of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.
It will in all likelihood be a scrap for the final spot on the podium, with the two Mercedes leading the way up front. A lot will depend on the strategies that the teams along with their drivers opt to take, and tactical pit stops may well be the only way to move up the grid. Ricciardo has been impressive in his first season at Red Bull, often outperforming his multiple world championship winning teammate Vettel, though the 1/2 offered for a podium finish for the Australian strains reliability. Vettel’s 5/4 for a podium finish is altogether more attractive.
